ALL STUDENTS GET TO DRIVE THE CAR ON THEIR FIRST LESSON!!!
The Driving Standards Agency (DSA) are the people who set the driving tests, they require that you pass a theory test before you can take your practical driving test.
The theory test is made up of two parts, the first part is a series of multiple choice questions and scenarios whilst the second part called 'hazard perception' is where you watch a set of video clips and and try to spot a developing hazard.
For full details click on this link http://www.youtube.com/embed/z_zi6j24F6s to watch a video clip from the DSA. about the theory test on U-Tube
You will need to practise for this test but this can be done in your own time either with books, dvd's, downloaded apps for your phone or on the DSA website.
I will guide, nag and help you with this part of your driving test but it is up to you to put the time and effort in to pass first time!
You can still have driving lessons whilst you are practising for your theory.
BEFORE YOU ARE ALLOWED TO DRIVE A MOTOR VEHICLE ON A PUBLIC ROAD YOU MUST HAVE A PROVISIONAL LICENCE YOU CAN OBTAIN A D1 FORM AT THE POST OFFICE AND APPLY BY POST OR YOU CAN APPLY ON THE DRIVING STANDARDS AGENCY WEBSITE.
Lessons are introduced by assessing your previous experience, if any, I then start at your level.
Complete beginners first lesson starts by learning the controls of the car and the basics of moving off and stopping. Then depending how the lesson goes, we will look at some left hand turns on quiet roads. You will be encouraged to progress but you will never be pushed beyond your capabilities.
I believe learning should be fun and enjoyable - you are more likely to stick at something if you are happy doing it and we will work together as a team to get you upto and beyond the driving test standard.
If you are going to supervise a learner driver you must be over 21 years of age and have held a full UK licence for at least three years, I offer a one hour lesson to parents or supervisors where you will be taught how to recognise when the trainee is driving correctly and what is expected for todays standard of driving, you will also learn how to keep control in a calm, relaxed and safe way. You will be shown the latest driving techniques and learn how to become a safer defensive driver which will help build the confidence of your trainee.
Once you have passed the practical test you will be eligible to take the DSA passplus course, made up of six modules this course is designed to give you further training including motorway driving and can help reduce insurance premiums, the course can either be completed all in one day or spread out over two days.
For the full licence holder, maybe you need a little more confidence! need to experience motorway driving! need help with parking, general driving or just want to improve your skills in the ever demanding motoring environment! whatever your looking for this course will help and also teach you how to become a safer defensive driver.
